Voting No on Question 1

To the Editor:

I was approached over the weekend by proponents of Question 1, on the ballot for the Nov. 8 Barnstable election, who claim that homeowners are going to save money on their taxes.

Maybe so, but at what cost? Some of the people pushing this question own property in Barnstable but don't live here year-round and don't vote here. They also don't particularly care about all the small businesses and small storeowners who will feel the burden if these taxes are shifted to them.

The people who benefit most are wealthy second-home owners who don't want to pay their fair share for running the town. The people who lose are the struggling small business owners, their families and the many charities and local causes that they support.

This is so unfair that it hurts to think of the consequences! I am one retiree who is putting Barnstable first and voting a resounding NO on Question 1!
