Plane crash lands at airport, Car crashes into Brooks Pharmacy

A line of strong thunderstorms moved across the mid and upper Cape as well as the Islands late Thursday evening keeping officials busy. There was a report two people may have been struck by lightning at the Mass Maritime Academy in Bourne, one person was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Numerous lightning strikes caused power surges and set off fire alarms and sent firefighters in several towns to possible fires but no serious damage was reported. Scattered power outages were also reported including parts of Hyannis. Torrential downpours flooded some roads for a time especially in the Mashpee area. Posted on 8/11 at 1:00 AM.

Plane crash lands at Barnstable Municipal Airport
HYANNIS - A small plane made a crash landing at Barnstable Municipal Airport after the nose gear apparently failed to deploy.

The pilot who was the only one on board escaped uninjured and the plane was towed to a hangar for inspection. The airport was closed for a short time.

Two injured in freak fall
ORLEANS
- Two men were taken to Cape Cod Hospital after a freak accident in Orleans Thursday. Reports are the two were trimming trees at a Tonset Road location when one of them fell causing the second to fall also. They fell about 6 feet to the ground. The injuries were described as non life-threatening. Posted on 8/10 at 7:00 PM.

Car crashes into pharmacy in Hyannis
HYANNIS - A vehicle struck the Brooks Pharmacy on West Main Street this morning shattering a plate glass window.

Neither the driver nor anyone in the store was injured. Barnstable Police are investigating although it appears to be a case of mistaking the gas for the brake.
