Ex professor released on $2 million bond as he awaits trial on child porn charges

Wellfleet home, searched last week, put up as collateral

A federal judge ordered former Wharton professor L. Scott Ward released on a $2 million bond yesterday as he awaits trial on child-pornography charges.

The ruling does not mean Ward, 63, will immediately get out of jail, because the U.S. Attorney's Office received a 24-hour stay while it files an appeal. In addition, a warrant for Ward's arrest was issued in Philadelphia on Tuesday after a search of his University of Pennsylvania office revealed CDs and DVDs containing what federal agents classified as child pornography.
