Major Sagamore Rotary Traffic Change on September 20th

Motorists should look for the signs that will unveil their new way

The MA Highway Department has notified the chambers and media outlets that the traffic patterns for the Sagamore Rotary will be changing on the 20th of September, 2006.  At that time, the rotary will no longer be allowed east or west travel--only north of south.  East and west traffic will be using the new interchange and bridge.

The rotary will only allow north and southbound traffic with Jersey barriers preventing circling. The Massachusetts Highway Department noted that the route changes will be taking place gradually throughout out the day with the majority taking place in the evening.

By November 2006, a ramp will be completed linking Route 3 directly to the Sagamore Bridge.  The flyover project was intended to alleviate traffic in the area and state officials claim the improvements will shave approximately 20 minutes of a trip to or from the Cape.

Heading north from the Cape:
Towards Route 3, go over the Sagamore Bridge (both lanes will be open) and proceed through the rotary onto Route 3 (Jersey barriers will be in place to prevent circling the rotary).

Eastbound toward Sagamore Beach, cross the bridge and use the first exit (1A) off the rotary onto Canal Street. (Local business, Park & Ride, Chamber of Commerce, Scusset Beach)

Westbound towards Buzzards Bay, cross the bridge and proceed through the rotary (Jersey barriers will be in place to prevent circling the rotary), take the exit for Route 6 West.  The exit will loop around and connect with Route 6 West towards Buzzards Bay.

Heading south to the Cape:
Towards the bridge from Route 3, traffic on Route 3 will be down to one lane approaching the rotary.  Stay to the left and merge with the Route 6 traffic also heading for the bridge.

Towards Sagamore Beach or Buzzards Bay from Route 3, take the new exit (1A) before the rotary remnants.  At the fork, motorist may go right on Route 6 West towards Buzzards Bay or use the new traffic light to take a left onto Meeting House Lane towards Sagamore Beach.

Eastbound travel:
Heading east from Buzzards Bay to the Cape, follow Route 6 to the old rotary, stay right and merge with Route 3 traffic to cross the bridge.

Heading east from Buzzards Bay to Route 3, bear left onto the "NEW" Scenic Highway Route 6. Go through three traffic lights (under the overpass).  Take the left at the third light onto State Road, then the left onto the new Route 3 North Exit.

Heading east from Buzzards towards Sagamore Beach, bear left onto the "NEW" Scenic Highway Route 6. Go through three traffic lights (under the overpass). Continue straight on Meeting House Lane towards Sagamore Beach.

Westbound travel:
Heading west from Sagamore Beach towards Buzzards Bay, from Meeting House Lane, go through three lights (under the overpass). Continue straight on Route 6 West towards Buzzards Bay.

Heading west from Sagamore Beach towards Cape Cod, from Meeting House Lane, go through three lights (under the overpass). Take a left at the third light onto Church Lane and follow the single lane traffic towards the bridge.

Heading east from Sagamore Beach to Route 3, take Meeting House Lane to a right on State Road.  Take the left exit for Route 3 North.
