Powerful storm threatens Cape; Junk burned in Falmouth; Worker backed over in West Barnstable; Sagamore Bridge crash snarls traffic; Dennis police seek hit & run driver

High wind warning in effect from 10 AM to 6 PM today and a High Wind Warning is now also in effect from 7 am to 6 pm Sunday. A major storm will rapidly intensify as it moves thru the region with potentially damaging southeast winds of 45-50 mph with gusts to 65 mph especially in heavy rain squalls on Saturday. Thunderstorms are also possible. Equally strong westerly winds are forecast behind the storm late Saturday night and Sunday. These winds will likely be capable of doing some property damage and downing trees and limbs which could likely cause scattered to possibly extensive power outages to develop. Shed fire sends smoke billowing into sky
FALMOUTH - An abandoned shed caught fire late Friday afternoon in Falmouth. Thick smoke could be seen for some distance from Trotting Park Road. Firefighters quickly doused the flames and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Posted on 10/28 at 6:00 AM.

Mason injured after car backs into him
WEST BARNSTABLE - A man doing masonary work was injured after being accidentally backed over by a car. The man was laying bricks at a home on Morgan Way when the homeowner apparently didn't see him as she backed out of the driveway. The victim suffered a leg injury and was taken to Cape Cod Hospital. Multi car crash closes Sagamore Bridge
- A multi vehicle crash forced the closure of the Sagamore Bridge about 11 AM. Reports say a funeral procession may have been crossing the bridge at the time. Traffic quickly jammed up on the Scenic Highway and Sandwich Road. State Police who are investigating the crash asked the painters on the Bourne Bridge to temporarily clear out to help ease traffic. No serious injuries were reported and traffic was flowing again in about an hour. Check traffic conditions now. Posted on 10/27 at 4:00 PM.

Dennis Police seek hit & run driver
- Police are seeking the driver who struck a bicyclist on Route 28 at Shad Hole Road about 8 PM Thursday and then fled the scene. The vehicle is described as a gray compact Toyota type 4 door. The bicyclist 47-year old Wayne Reid of Dennisport was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dennis Police at (508) 394-1315.
