Woman backed over in Harwich driveway passes away

Woman passes away after run over by car in Harwich
HARWICH
- A woman has died after an apparent freak accident in Harwich Friday morning. Rescuers were called to 3 Laurie Lane about 10:30 AM. The woman was pinned when this Ford Taurus station wagon rolled backwards. Harwich rescuers had to extricate 80-year old Eleanor Higgins from under the vehicle. She was then rushed to Cape Cod Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries 5 days later. The driver 80-year old Shirley Kemp of Harwich apparently did not realize Higgins had gotten out of the car and was behind her. No charges have been filed. Here Harwich Police Lt. Thomas Gagnon inspects the scene. The victims sneakers mark the spot where she was struck. Posted on 11/03 at 3:00 PM; updated on 11/013 at 12:00 PM. Photo courtesy of Jake O'Callaghan.
