Truck vs bicycle leads to Hyannis fatality

Barnstable Police officers discuss the scene of a FedEx truck vs bicyclist in Hyannis.
HYANNIS - A bicyclist was killed when he was struck by a truck in Hyannis Wednesday morning. Around 10:30 AM a Federal Express delivery truck collided with the bike on Route 132 at Independence Drive. The victim 51-year Kenneth Olsen of Hyannis was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said he was not wearing a helmet. The woman driving the truck who was not  identified was clearly shaken up and is seen at right being comforted by a fellow FedEx worker while a supervisor is on the phone behind them. A Barnstable Police reconstruction unit is investigating the crash which tied up traffic for a time. Initial reports say Olsen was crossing the four lane intersection on a red light and several cars nearly hit him before the truck did. No charges have been filed against the driver. Truck vs Hydrant on Old Bass in South Dennis

A Chevy pickup collided with a hydrant in Dennis. The driver suffered minor injuries.
SOUTH DENNIS - Around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, a truck traveling north on Old Bass River Road driven by local landscaper, Ben Hudson, inexplicably crossed the road and collided with a fire hydrant near Tuckoosa Road. The cracked fire hydrant spewed water but a nearby catch basin handled most of the flow. Firefighters used engine 115 to pull the truck off the hydrant. It then took a few minutes for workers from the Dennis Water Department (right) to locate and close the shut-off valve adjacent to the hydrant. Hudson was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with what were reported to be minor injuries.
