falmouth122007a_599

falmouth122007b_300FALMOUTH - Thursday at 10:30 a.m. on Woods Hole Road in Falmouth, the driver of a Saturn wagon apparently slowed to a stop in front of a Cape Cod Express tractor trailer and the driver of the truck was unable to stop in time to avoid colliding with the rear of the wagon.

In an attempt to avoid more serious impact with the car, the driver of the truck went off the road on top of the guard rail and large rocks, finally colliding with a tree.  The tree prevented the truck from continuing down a very steep embankment.

The male driver of the Saturn declined medical treatment and the male driver of the truck was transported to Falmouth Hospital by Falmouth Fire/Rescue for evaluation of what were said to be minor injuries.

Falmouth police are investigating the crash and were assisted at the scene by a Falmouth DNR officer.

Police and Fire units were expecting to be on the scene for some time while the tractor and trailer were lifted off of the guard rail and a boulder compromising one of the truck's fuel tanks.  A large vehicle wrecker had been called to the scene.
