Officer escapes serious injury after cruiser crash

HYANNIS - A Barnstable Police officer escaped with only minor injuries after his cruiser was involved in a collision. The crash happened Friday evening at South Street and Sea Street. A black Chevy S10 pickup truck struck the passenger side of the cruiser  which was responding to an emergency with lights and siren causing extensive damage. Both the officer Christopher Challies and two people in the pickup  were taken to CCH with injuries that were not life-threatening. The pickup driver 26-year old Jason French of Centerville told police he did not hear or see the cruiser. He was not cited in the crash. Photo by Frank Paparo.

BPD cruiser stoned
HYANNIS
- At about 3:45 p.m. today a Barnstable Police cruiser patrolling through the troubled Hiramar Road neighborhood in Hyannis had a rock thrown at it striking the rear of the car. The officer was not injured and called for another unit for investigation and photos. Story by Frank Paparo.

Fire damges Bourne house
BOURNE
- Fire damaged a home in Bourne Thursday evening. Firefighters quicklyknocked down the fire at 25 Williston Road after the 6:15 p.m. alarm.No one was injured and the cause is under investigation.

Hit and Run crash in Hyannis
HYANNIS - At 3 p.m. Friday, there was a hit-and-run crash on Main Street Hyannis near the West End Rotary. An APB was put out for a black SUV that hit a car head on in the street and forced it off the road into a driveway. Though the damage to the small car was not extensive, it was enough to send the driver to CCH by Hyannis rescue. The BPD are actively looking for the other car because of the erratic operation that almost caused it to hit another car while getting away and leaving the scene. Story and photo by Frank Paparo.

Sexual assault investigated in Hyannis
HYANNIS
- At about 12:30 p.m. Friday Barnstable Police were called to a report of a sexual assault at a Crocker Street residence in Hyannis. Detectives were called to the scene and several other units responded. After about an hour and a half  of investigation police transported several children to "Children's Cove," a safe home in Hyannis for sexually abused children. No injuries as vehicle flips into marsh
ORLEANS
- A vehicle overturned into a marsh in Orleans but the driver escaped injury. The crash happened just before 7 p.m. on Wildflower Lane. Orleans Police are investigating.
