The traveling Manatee in Dennis; Vineyard manhunt results in rapid arrest

This is video from the scene of the manatee in Sesuit Harbor in Dennis Wednesday (10-08-08). David Curran shot the  video of the scene and interviewed a Selectman. He also included some great video the Dennis Harbormaster shot of the manatee.

 The Boston Globe reported today;

The manatee who has been visiting Cape Cod for an off-seasonvacation has been sighted again. Since Sunday, he’s been visiting thewaters off of Dennis, said Chris Cutter, a spokesman for theInternational Fund for Animal Welfare.

Cutter said he went out in a boat this afternoon with the Dennisharbormaster, who has been keeping an eye on the animal, to look at theunusual tourist.

He said the manatee appears to have a problem with one of his eyesand there’s a chunk missing from one of his flippers “so he’s been beatup a little bit. ... Other than that, he looks healthy.” Globe.

 

Vineyard manhunt results in rapid arrest

VINEYARD HAVENBrett Geddis, a suspect in last week's unarmedrobbery of a senior citizen, is behind bars. Police took only a fewhours to locate the suspect.

Geddis, 28, and his suspected accomplice, Michael Ellis, who alreadyis being held on a $5,000 bond, are being charged with robbing nearly$500 in movie receipts from a senior citizen who was going to make anight deposit.

Tisbury Police Chief John Cashin says that the good old-fashionedpolice work by Det. Mark Santon and Officer Daniel Hanavan resulted inthe arrests. Chief Cashin adds that public support on the case wasoverwhelming with lots of tips and even an offer to post a reward outof pocket.

Geddis is being held without bail. Ellis is scheduled for a bail hearing in Dukes County Superior Court on Friday.

Geddis was wanted in the unarmed robbery last week of a movie theateremployee who was in possession of nearly $500 dollars in receipts.According to police, the employee was on his way to the night depositaround 8:30 p.m. when he was assaulted by two men and robbed of the cash.

On Wednesday morning, an arrest warrant was issued in EdgartownDistrict Court for Geddis on a charge of unarmed robbery. A generalcall to Island police departments went out at 11:26 a.m. Wednesday. 

The bag man, Michael Ellis, was arraigned in district courtWednesday morning. That hearing was continued to Friday for bail reviewin superior court. Both suspects have a long arrest records includingbreaking and entering, assault and larceny.
