Police charge man with knifing, beating man with baseball bat

NANTUCKET - After responding to a report Thursday evening of two men fighting in a parking lot in Bayberry Court, just off Daves Street on Nantucket, police arrested Osagie Doyle for allegedly knifing and beating a man with a baseball bat.

Nantucket police have charged Doyle, 22, with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon following an attack on a 40-year-old Taunton man.

Responding officers found two men, one of whom was bleeding from several wounds. Emergency medical technicians from the Nantucket Fire Department treated the victim at the scene for his injuries, and took him to Nantucket Cottage Hospital for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Upon investigation, police learned that the dispute was reported to have originated at the Bamboo Supper Club at 2 Chin's Way. The victim, after leaving the bar and walking away on foot to a parking lot on Daves Street, was followed in a vehicle by the suspect to the parking lot, where the two continued to argue.

At that point, Doyle allegedly got out of his vehicle brandishing his knife and attacked the victim. The victim, police said, was able to disarm Doyle, though he suffered a cut to his hand in the process.

Doyle then allegedly returned to his vehicle and retrieved a baseball bat, allegedly striking the victim in the head and knew.

Nantucket police said the victim was able to escape, summon the police and hide from the suspect until the arrival of police officers.
