Operator charged in Chatham July 4th crash

CHATHAM - The Chatham Police Department has charged Troy Eldredge, 27, of Harwich, in connection with a crash that occurred on July 04, 2009.

Editor's note: Mrs. Machie was critically injured after the crash and was transport to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston Saturday. This morning (Thursday), the Cape Cod Times reported that her condition has been upgraded.

Mr. Eldredge has been charged with:

  1. Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  2. Failure to Stay Within Marked Lanes
  3. Failure to Use Care/Caution in Backing
  4. Speed Greater than Reasonable for Existing Conditions

The crash occurred on Post Office Road at 11:09 a.m.  Virginia Machie, 81, of Chatham, was struck by Eldredge’s vehicle, while she was walking on Post Office Road after the completion of Chatham’s annual 4th of July parade.

On Thursday, July 2 at 2:16 a.m., Thomas F. Maloney Jr, of Canton, MA,was arrested by Patrol Officer Albert Sprague during a vehicle stop onRoute 28 in West Yarmouth for OUI Liquor.

On Thursday, July 2 at 12:03 a.m., Glen Daniel Duguay, of Amelia Way in Marstons Mills, was arrested by Patrol Officer Christopher Van Ness during a traffic stop on Route 28 in West Yarmouth on Warrants.

On Thursday, July 2 at 5:45 p.m., William John Woods, of Crestwood Road in Dennisport, was arrested by Patrol Officer David Schneeweis during a forgery call on Route 6A in West Yarmouth for Felony False Check.

On Friday, July 3 at 1:50 a.m., Joseph Juan Montanez, of Barnstable Road in Hyannis, was arrested by Patrol Officer Christopher Marino during a vehicle stop on College Road in West Yarmouth for Felony OUI Liquor 4th Offense. See original report here.

On Saturday, July 4 at 2:18 a.m., David W. Dutra, of Pinewood Road in Hyannis, was arrested by Patrol Officer Michael Kramer during a vehicle stop on Rotue 28 in West Yarmouth for OUI Drugs.
