Truro Police announce traffic delays, road closures for the weekend

TRURO - The Truro Police, Fire and DPW are announcing several road closures, heavy traffic areas and traffic delays as a result of scheduled Truro Tercentennial events this weekend.

ORV access will be restricted on all bay side beaches north of Pamet Harbor on July 17 and 18, 2009.

Thursday July 16, 2009
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Commemorative Celebration of Truro’s Incorporation at Cobb Library and Pamet Park. Truro Center Road will be closed due to heavy pedestrian traffic. Local traffic may detour using Route 6 and Castle Road to Bridge Road. Detour will be in affect from Truro Center Road at Town Hall Road and Truro Center Road at Jams. No thru traffic will be allowed.

Friday, July 17, 2009
6 p.m. to Midnight Fireworks on the Bay will take place. As such, the following roads will be detoured (rain date July 18, 2009):

  • Castle Road to Corn Hill Road – One way traffic only from Route 6.
  • Castle Road at Meetinghouse Road – no access
  • Castle Road at Bridge Road – no access
  • Castle Road at Truro Center Road – All traffic directed to Route 6 ramps

No parking signs have been posted in certain areas of Castle Road. There is NO parking on Corn Hill Road. This will be enforced.

Corn Hill Beach Parking Lot – Limited parking available.

Police and Medical personnel will be on scene. Beaches will be heavily patrolled.

Saturday July 18, 2009
3 p.m. to 10 p.m. -  Beach Party Bonanza at Corn Hill Beach Corn Hill Beach Parking Lot will have limited access and limited parking due to heavy pedestrian activity. You should plan to carpool to this event.

Corn Hill Road is posted no parking and will be strictly enforced.

Police and Medical personnel will be on scene. Beaches will be heavily patrolled.

Sunday, July 19, 2009
10 a.m. to Noon - Parade and Festival The parade route begins at Grozier Square and ends at the Highland Center on Old Dew Line Road, located off South Highland Road. 

Pedestrian traffic will be heavy along the parade route.

The entire parade route will be closed for a period of time to allow the parade to get through. Times are approximate and are dependent on the speed of the parade, but expect closures and delays:

  • Expect a closure on Pond Road
  • Expect a detour/delay at South Hollow Road at Shore Road
  • Expect a detour/delay at Hughes Road at Shore Road
  • Expect a detour/delay at Standish Road at Shore Road
  • Expect a detour/delay at Highland Road at Rte 6 Ramps
  • Expect a detour/delay at Highland Road at Coast Guard Road
  • Expect a detour/delay at South Highland and Highland Roads
  • Expect a detour/delay at South Highland and Highland Links
  • Expect a detour/delay at South Highland and Old Dew Line Road
