Dennis Police and AAA host Older & Wiser Driver seminar; Mitchell River Bridge replacement info meeting in Chatham

Free seminar to be held this Friday

On Friday, August 28, 2009 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. the Dennis Police Department, in conjunction with AAA of Southern New England, is sponsoring a two-hour seminar titled "The Older and Wiser Driver."

The course, developed by AAA, will focus on topics of interest to senior drivers including tips on night driving and developing strategies on reaching your destination safely.

The seminar will be held on Friday, August 28, 2009 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dennis Police Station, 90 Bob Crowell Rd. South Dennis. Coffee and donuts will be served.

Attendees need not be AAA members and there is no fee for the seminar.

Mitchell River Bridge replacement info meeting to be held in Chatham September 3rd

The Massachusetts Highway Department will hold an informational meeting on Thursday, September 3rd at 4pm to inform Chatham residents about the Mitchell River Bridge replacement design process.

The Mitchell River Bridge has been identified as structurally deficient by the Massachusetts Highway Department. As part of the State’s ongoing efforts to improve bridge safety throughout the Commonwealth, the bridge has been placed within the Accelerated Bridge Program.

This informational meeting will provide the general public with a brief overview of the Accelerated Bridge Program and the design process involved with bridge replacement.

Ample time will be provided for public input on potential concept alternatives.

Representatives from the Massachusetts Highway Department, the Chatham Department of Public Works, Community Development Department and Police Department will be in attendance to respond to any questions or comments.

Additional meetings and presentations will be scheduled at the 25% and 75% design stages for this project.

The September 3rd meeting will be held at the Chatham Community Center at 702 Main Street in the 2nd floor large conference room.
