Accident,18-wheeler crash cause Route 6 traffic jam in Barnstable

Major back-ups on Route 6 Westbound Wednesday morning

BARNSTABLE - The Cape Cod Times reported early yesterday that two separate vehicle mishaps caused significant traffic delays Wednesday morning on Route 6 in Barnstable.

Early, before daylight, an 18-wheeler from Shaw's Supermarket crashed near Exit 6 and just as crews finished clearing the scene later in the morning, a car accident further up the highway only added to the adverse traffic situation.

Traffic on Route 6 was still in a snarl around 10:30 a.m., when these photographs were taken by cctoday.

Traffic problems continued yesterday around midday when a car fire held Route 6 Westbound traffic at a standstill for more than a half hour. Barnstable Firefighters extinguished the fire in what appeared to be a Volvo in the right lane just before Exit 6.
