Ludicrous, anti-intellectual and unpatriotic

Old Kings Highway Regional Historic District Commission turns its back on the future generations of cape Cod students

By Walter Brooks

I've lived on Cape Cod for almost a half a century. I was enthusiastic in 1973 when the towns, county and state approved the wonderful idea of preserving the look of Route 6-A from Sandwich to Orleans for future generations.

For decades its members did just that, occasionally upsetting a few plans to repaint a front door pink or purple instead of the colonial green or blue.

But the retrograde memebrs of thta commission today seem determined to not only prove we were wrong in establishing this regulatory board, but in driving those very same "future generations" away fro The Cape leaving only the kind of frustrated, ols men and old minds I saw at their meeting yesterday when the Old Kings Highway Regional Historic District Commission voted 5-0 yesterday to uphold a denial of the Cape Cod Community College's plan to build a 243-foot-tall turbine on its West Barnstable campus.
