Inaugural Cape Cod Collegiate Hockey Classic this weekend

Colgate takes on West Point in neutral territory at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center

A neutral site game at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center on Saturday, October 9 at 7 p.m. will mark the 2010-11 season opener for host Colgate University men's hockey team as they face their long time rival, U.S. Military Academy at West Point in the inaugural Cape Cod Classic in Hyannis.

Tickets are on sale now at the HYCC box office through Friday (8:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and game day starting at 9 a.m.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will mark the 58th meeting between Colgate and Army. Colgate holds a 36-16-5 record in the series versus the Black Knights. The first ever meeting happened in West Point back in 1916-1917.  Colgate traveled to Army 22 consecutive times before the Cadets made the trip to Hamilton for the first time in 1962. The Raiders are 15-1-3 in the last 19 meetings, including a 4-4 tie last season and a 6-1 victory in West Point on October 21, 2006. The Raiders are 12-4 all-time in one-goal games and are 2-0-5 all-time in overtime contests.

Legendary Army and Olympic hockey coach Jack Riley will drop the puck at this inaugural event.

Tickets are just $12 for adults and $8 for kids under 12. Seating is general admission, first come-first serve.  There are limited tickets and a ticket guarantees admission but not necessarily a seat.  There will be designated standing room only areas. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

In addition to the collegiate hockey action,  members of the Barnstable Youth Hockey Association will try to beat the clock in a between period event that is sure to please the crowd.  Best Buy will showcase all their newest products including 3-D Televisions and the all-new Xbox 360 Move gaming system that rivals the Wii! Check them out inside the gymnasium throughout the game!  Also, Play It Again Sports will open their new satellite location inside the HYCC Pro Shop. Come in and bid on items, buy 50-50 raffle tickets and say hello to the familiar faces.

The event is sponsored by the Town of Barnstable, the Cape Cod Chamber, the Massachusetts Sports Partnership,  Red Jacket Resorts, Hyannis Days Inn, Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis, Cape Codder Resort & Spa, Plymouth and Brockton  Bus Lines and Cape Cod Media Group.

The Hyannis Youth and Community Center is located at 141 Bassett Lane in Hyannis. Call the center for information at 508-790-6345.
