Rock Against Cancer event in Woods Hole to feature Commander Cody Band

Community event scheduled for Friday, November 5, 2010

The Falmouth Hospital Cancer Committee will sponsor “Rock Against Cancer,” featuring the Commander Cody Band, to support community outreach programs for the detection and/or prevention of cancer. The event will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 5 at the Landfall Restaurant, 2 Luscombe Avenue in Woods Hole.

Members of the Falmouth Hospital Cancer Committee will give introductory remarks on the cancer program and the important part community outreach programs play in the prevention and/or detection of cancer.

Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen date back to 1968 and represent the best of American rock ‘n roll music. They played with such premiere rock bands as the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Led Zeppelin, and the Eagles, and many of their songs have topped the billboard charts. The band’s 1974 album “Live From Deep in the Heart of Texas” was named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 greatest albums of all time.

The Rock Against Cancer event is the latest in a series of outreach programs sponsored by the Falmouth Hospital Cancer Committee for the Falmouth community. The group sponsored the Super Colon in the summer of 2009, the Cancer Resource Library at the Falmouth Public Library, and, most recently in June, a celebration of National Survivor Day, in collaboration with the library.

Tickets for the Nov. 5 Rock Against Cancer event are $25 per person, and advance ticket purchase is advised by contacting Deb Crockett-Rice at 508-495-7596 or [email protected] Tickets will also be available at the door.

Tickets will also be available at the door.
