Seussical to run November 19-21 and 26–28 in Hyannis
Proceeds from matinee on November 21 to the Cape Cod Hospital Auxiliary
Don’t miss the large scale family-friendly musical Seussical from the Barnstable High School Drama Club. It truly is a show for all ages.
The show is designed and directed by John Sullivan with musical direction by Michael Gross, costumes by Karen Mannal and choreography by student Danielle Parkka.
Seussical is a musical based on the works of Dr. Seuss. But it isn’t just a string of his stories set to music. And it isn’t just one of his stories. In fact, this musical weaves together several of his most famous tales and characters in unexpected ways.
The Seuss’ world includes hundreds upon hundreds of wondrous characters, creatures, places and things. “Seussical” incorporates elements from at least 15 of his books, as well as many of his best-loved and most familiar characters. Many of these characters never met one another before. But they meet in this musical.
In the course of the performance, some will fall in love, some will have desperate adventures and some will even save the world. And they’ll all travel everywhere from the Jungle of Nool to McElligot’s Pool to Palm Beach.
Dr. Seuss believed in helping a friend, in not giving up and in keeping a promise. He believed in the value and the dignity of others, in working to preserve the fragile sweetness of the natural world, and he believed that peace is the ultimate ideal, among nations and in every heart. He also believed in the pure power of the imagination. You will find all these serious concerns at the heart of Seussical.
Seussical will open on Friday, November 19 at 7pm and continue with shows on Saturday, November 20 at 7pm and a special show on Sunday, November 21 at 2pm. The following weekend, performances will take place on Friday, November 26 at 7pm, Saturday, November 27 at 7pm and a final matinee at 2pm on Sunday, November 28.
All seating is first come first serve and reservations can be made by calling 508 771-6246. Tickets are $10.
The profits from the matinee on the November 21st performance will be given to the Cape Cod Hospital Auxiliary to help fund the new Cardiac Care Center at The Cape Cod Hospital. This fund raising has been an annual event for the Drama Club as part of their program to help various charities in the community.
