DENNISPORT - During a routine patrol of Dennisport businesses early Saturday morning, just before 2 a.m., Patrolman Brendan Niemisto encountered a suspicious vehicle behind one of the businesses on Hall Street, according to a Dennis police release.  While speaking with the three people in the parked car--one male and two females, Patrolman Niemisto saw smoking issuing from below the front passenger seat, police said.

Upon further investigation, Patrolman Niemisto discovered a quantity of marijuana and opium, according to police. The male driver was identified as 25-year-old Daniel Dalton of Pembroke, MA. The two females were found to be juveniles. They are alleged to have been smoking pot provided to them by Dalton, the only adult in the car.

The two girls were released to the custody of their parents and Dalton was placed under arrest and taken to Dennis Police Headquarters where he was booked and charged with distribution of a Class D drug (marijuana), possession of a Class B drug (opium), conspiracy to violate drug laws and a drug violation within 100 feet of a playground, police said.

Dalton was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Orleans District Court on Monday.
