Sonow that we are officially into Fall, we're dealing with theslightly colder weather and have been blessed with some beautifulautumnal days. I am sorry that the forecast calls for rain for mostof this weekend because we have so many wonderful events planned onCape Cod and I am going to do my best to hope for sunshine! Enjoy theweekend, and do try to get out...maybe if we all put on our requestsfor sun, there's hope that we end up with opportunities to enjoyall the outdoor activities and festivals!!!   • For all you pet owners and pet lovers, The Carrie A. Seaman Animal Shelter is sponsoring its CASAS 13th Annual Pet Appreciation Weekend in locations throughout Provincetown. All benefits will go to the animal shelter. Enjoy canine games, photo contest, walk, blessing of the animals and pet parade. For more details, consult the schedule at

  • It's an exciting weekend for all you scallop lovers! Head out to Buzzards Bay for the 42nd Bourne Scallop Fest which will happen rain or shine! 42nd Bourne Scallop Fest. The event is sponsored by the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce and will be held on Main Street and Buzzards Bay Park in Buzzards Bay! Gates open at 10am each morning. Dinner hours are Fri & Sat from 11am-9pm; Sun 11am-6pm. General admission $5, under 12 free. Chicken and scallop dinners will be available for purchase and it is expected to be a huge event with over 55,000 visitors. Enjoy the food court featuring raw bar, lobster rolls, hamburgers, hot dogs, beer, wine and more. There will be a juried craft show, a midway of games and rides, and non-stop entertainment including a performance by Siobhan Magnus on Saturday.   • Farmer's Markets continue: Osterville Farmers' Market from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Osterville Historical Museum in Osterville and/or Provincetown Farmers' Market from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM in Provincetown

  • Enjoy Public Skate from 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM at The Hyannis Youth & Community Center in Hyannis. What a wonderful way to get exercise and get those kiddos tired so they sleep well for you Friday night!

  • Turning Pointe Dance Studio in Falmouth is offering Itsy Bitsy Yoga® for Tots from 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM followed by Itsy Bitsy Yoga® for Babies from 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM.   • Small Fries: What Dwells in Shells, ages 2-5 is on again this week from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Take the opportunity to engage your preschooler in nature with this Mommy-and-Me-style class. Through the use of songs, stories, role plays, crafts, and hands-on explorations, your preschooler will discover the world around them and develop cognitive, motor, and social skills. Each class focuses on a special animal or habitat. Call the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary in South Wellfleet for more information.

  • Toddler Town is from 10:30 AM - 1:00 PM at Wellfleet Public Library. Considering the rain we have in the forecast for the weekend, the opportunity to have fun at their indoor gym at 11am sounds like an opportunity many toddler moms will welcome!

  • Preschool Storytime starts at 10:30 AM at Eastham Public Library for ages 2 - 5 and includes stories, fingerplays, songs, silliness and a craft. All are welcome.

  • An old favorite at Green Briar Nature Center, Critter Capers continues from 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM Visit with a naturalist and one of the animals and learn about life cycles, habits and habitats. This program, which is offered every Friday morning, is suitable for children ages 3 and up with an adult. Green Briar Nature Center is in East Sandwich.

  • If you're comfortable getting your 10-14 year olds out for a night of rug-cutting, Flax Pond Dances are happening at the Flax Pond Lodge in South Yarmouth from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. The sessions, of course, are chaperoned and there is the promise of a great DJ!

  • Cruise through Nauset Marsh on a pontoon boat in search of shorebirds and other wildlife. The Nauset Marsh Scenic Cruise will take place from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM. Learn about salt marsh ecology and the cultural history of the area. $35 members; $40 non-members; $10 less for children ages 6-12. This event is made possible through the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary in South Wellfleet.

  • For kids between grades 3 and 7, Rock Night at HYCC (Grades 3-7 only) offers kids the opportunity to skate to the beat of popular music and socialize with their friends from 7:15 PM - 9:15 PM at The Hyannis Youth and Community Center.

  • The West Barnstable Train Station & Museum OPEN from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM.The "Cape Cod Chapter, National Railway Historical Society maintains and operates the train station on donations and volunteerism. Cape Cod Central Scenic Train Ride tickets on sale at the ticket window in the train station up to train departure at 11:55am every Saturday from May 28 to October 15; Train Station and Museum open for families and visitors 9:00am to 2:00pm.

  • If kids bring their grandparents to the Cape Cod Children's Museum on Saturday September 24th, they will enjoy a free day of exhibits, crafts, activities and fun for everyone! Under a 40'x40' tent, vendors for senior lifestyles will be on hand with literature, free samples and giveaways! Learn about bike safety from the Mashpee Kiwanis and receive a free bike helmet! Narrate your story, have your picture taken and custom craft a frame! This program is being offered completely free in cooperation with New York Life and Caregiver Homes. My Grandparents and Me Day sounds like great fun and is perhaps an opportunity for moms and dads to get out on their own and enjoy a day of dating and reconnecting as adults! 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM at Cape Cod Children's Museum.

  • Dennis Union Church Apple Festival is happening at Dennis Union Church in Dennis. The Apple Festival will feature a FREE bounce house and FREE arts and crafts for children. FREE admission. Apples, apple pies and slices of pie will be available to purchase. The festival hours are 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM.

  • For all you ice-skaters out there! Hyannis Youth and Community Center has Public Skate at 2 different times today: from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and again from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Get out on the ice and get ready for the winter by honing your ice skating skills!

  • Flax Pond Movie Nights is happening at Flax Pond Lodge in South Yarmouth from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM so you can enjoy Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs this weekend! For children in grades 2-5 and the cost is $7.00 per child (max cost per family $20.00.) Parents are free but can also take some time to themselves for a couple of hours.

  • Camp Edwards Open House offers the opportunity for all of you military historians and enthusiasts to learn about Revolutionary War, Civil War and WWII encampments. Tour Tactical Training Base Kelley. Aircraft and military vehicles. Kids' activities, concessions. Free, open to the public. Enter through the Main Gate off the Otis Rotary, in Bourne. Hours: 9am-4pm Sat, 9am-2pm Sun.

  • Family Jam Workshops continue from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at the Green Briar Nature Center and Jam Kitchen in East Sandwich. This week it's apple pie jam on the schedule! YUM!

  • Public Skate gives you another opportunity to hone those ice-skating skills from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Hyannis Youth & Community Center in Hyannis.

  • NFL Sundays at Flax Pond is an opportunity to watch your favorite team on the big screen! The game will be shown on a 10 x 20 screen inside. This is a family friendly non-alcoholic event.
    The event starts at 1pm game time. Doors open at Noon. This week, the Patriots will play Buffalo. Enjoy yet another event at Flax Pond Lodge in South Yarmouth, MA.
