Burning season begins in Wellfleet on the Ides of January

Burning season to continue through May 1, 2012

Open burning season in Wellfleet will begin on Sunday, January 15 and continue through Tuesday, May 1 at 4 p.m. Wellfleet residents may purchase a permit for $15 (check or exact change) at the Wellfleet Fire Department.

Burning is allowed between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., weather-permitting. If you wish to burn, you must obtain a permit prior to doing so.  Once you have paid for your permit, you must call 508-349-0333 between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. each morning of the day you wish to burn. Permission to burn calls must be made only to that number.

When you call 508-349-0333, you will be told if burning is allowed on that day. If yes, you will be prompted to leave your name, address and permit number. Should weather conditions change during the day, the Wellfleet Fire Department may contact residents and order fires to be extinguished.

Regulations are included with the downloadable permit form here. Failure to follow all regulations may result in the revocation of your permit, according to the Wellfleet Fire Department. Permits will be processed at the department between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily.  Call 508-349-3754 with any questions.
