Hello everyone! Here’s hoping you all made it through the heat yesterday! I bet there were many beach-goers! So June continues to speed past us and already we’re at the second to last weekend of the month. Soon, we’ll be celebrating July 4th and Cape Cod and all it has to offer is truly coming alive with events and fun!

On Friday, June 22 2012:

  • Nauset Marsh Discovery Cruise (Orleans) 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Offered by Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. Cruise through Nauset Marsh on a pontoon boat and disembark on the exposed tidal flats to search, with nets and magnifiers, for wildlife. Learn about the wildlife with an experienced naturalist. Ages 2 and older. Pre-registration required. (Wellfleet)

  • Seashore Ramble 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. Explore the beach at low tide with a friendly naturalist. Our walk to the beach will take us through five different sanctuary habitats, and we’ll use dip nets and magnifiers to search for swimming, flying, and burrowing wildlife along the way. For ages 4 and older with adult. (Wellfleet)

  • Highland Cape Cod Lighthouse Tour 10:00 AM - 05:30 PM. Tour Highland Lighthouse, daily from 10am to 5:30pm, May 19 through mid October. Gift shop closes at 6pm. Admission is $4 per person, all ages. There is a 48 inch height requirement for all children. (North Truro)

  • Critter Capers at Green Briar Nature Center from 10:30AM – 11:00AM. Drop in for a half-hour visit with a naturalist and one of the resident animals. Suitable for children ages 2.5 and up. Advanced registration is NOT required. Free to members; $2 per person for non-members. (East Sandwich)

  • Creature Feature 1:30 PM - 2:00 PM at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. Meet the creeping, crawling, swimming, climbing creatures of the sanctuary. We’ll bring out animals that we have discovered at the sanctuary or caught during our Marine Life Cruises, and share their survival secrets. Families will have a chance to touch critters and special artifacts. For ages 2 and older, backpack babies welcome at no charge. (Wellfleet)

  • Arts Alive Festival '12 on the Falmouth Library Lawn. Friday through Sunday, June 22 through 24. June 22, 5 to 9 PM – Town Dance, 7 to 9 PM, June 23, 10 AM to 9 PM - Rock Alive, 6 to 9 PM, June 24, 11 AM to 5 PM. A 3-day celebration of the arts in Falmouth and the Upper Cape. Opens with a Town Dance on Friday 7 to 9 PM. Continuous entertainment - over 60 performances of Theater, Spoken Word, Dance and Music for all tastes - jazz, classical, folk and fiddle, show tunes and a special Rock Fest Saturday Night, 6 to 9 PM. 50 + artisans and crafts people display and sell their wares. Special Tent for Kids craft activities. All free and everyone welcome – rain or shine. (Falmouth)

  • Fairy Gardening Festival at Hyannis Country Garden. Weekend celebration of creating miniature landscapes for the elves, fairies and nature spirits. Saturday 10 AM: Make and Take Fairy Garden Workshop, $35.00. Create a miniature garden for a table, porch, patio or yard. Bowl, plants, soil, moss and instruction included. Participants can bring in shells, stones, or personal items to include and you may purchase accessories if desired. Advance registration and payment required. Sunday, 1 PM: Free Fairy Gardening Seminar. Learn how to make fairy gardens indoors or out. See how to create mini-landscapes, craft dwellings and find miniature plants. Enter The Fairy House Contest: Pick up instructions and an entry form in the store. Winners receive a $25.00 gift certificate! Fairy houses will be on display at Country Garden during the month of July. (Hyannis)

  • Train Rides from Historical Train Station 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Looking for a fun train ride? Want to enjoy your spare time? Cape Cod Central Scenic Train Rides in 2012 depart twice on Saturdays at 9:25am and 12:25pm - Adults $16, Seniors $14, Child $11. Children under age 3 seated on lap are free. Historical Train Station built in 1911 and Museum Open, See our train displays, books and video library. All ages welcome. Free parking, donations accepted.   • Harwich 5K Road Race 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM begins at Harwich Chamber of Commerce Parking Area. The 3rd Annual Harwich 5K Road Race brought to you under the guidance of the Friends of Harwich Youth and all proceeds will go towards Youth Fitness Related Programs for the town of Harwich. Friends of Harwich Youth is a non-profit 501 c3 charitable organization whose mission continues to be in the raising and providing funds for many youth programs in Harwich. This race has been certified by US Track and Field and will start and finish at the School House/Harwich Chamber of Commerce in downtown Harwich Port with a fun celebration party and award ceremony at Ember Coal Fired Pizza and Wings. All are welcome to run, walk, volunteer and to just enjoy a fun day. Prizes awarded to top finishers in each age category. 50/50 Raffle and free t-shirts to first 300 registrants. Entry Fee: $15 before May 31; $20 Day of the Race. (Harwichport)

  • Nature Journal Walk 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM. Getting The Picture: Explore a different Barnstable Land Trust property and village each week, with Mary Richmond of Cape Cod Art and Nature and BLT. Armed with your sketchbook and/or camera, compose the time honored tradition of a nature journal. Drawing materials are provided for those who don't have them. Slow paced, the goal is to share observations, not create great art. All ages. Pre-registration is necessary as space and materials are limited. $5 each. This week: Cotuit Eagle Pond. (Cotuit)

  • Nobska Lighthouse Tour 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM. At Nobska Point Lighthouse. Children must be at least 45 inches tall to enter. Shoes and shirts are required. No food or drink permitted in the lighthouse. Backpacks, large purses, large camera bags are not allowed in the lightroom. Infants in carrying pouches not allowed in the lighthouse. No liability is accepted for personal items left unattended in or on the grounds of the lighthouse. Free admission. (Woods Hole)

The Emerging Leaders of Osterville Village Library will present an Etiquette Luncheon under the tent, teaching dining skills for children ages 6 – 11. Tickets are $30, including lunch.   • Cape Cod Mall's 3rd Annual Contest To Sing The National Anthem at a Harbor Hawks Game 11:00 AM at Cape Cod Mall. Calling all singers - you are invited to participate in the 3rd Annual National Anthem Singing Competition sponsored by the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. Not a singer? Attend the event and cheer for your favorite contestant! WHAT: Cape Cod Mall is now registering contestants for the 3rd Annual National Anthem Singing Competition. The first 20 contestants (14 years or older) can register at Simon Guest Services in the mall from June 1 –June 23. The grand prize winner will sing the National Anthem at a Hyannis Harbor Hawks game this summer. Every registered contestant will win a prize!
