This is a letter of thanks to Bill Keating, our congressman from the 9th district. He is an example of those Representatives whose conduct in office makes them exceptions to the low regard we all have for the "just-say-no" House of Representatives. At a 10% approval rating, the Boehner/Cantor led majority disgust even some old line Republicans.
He opposes catastrophic oil shale exploitation and sees no reason for taxpayer money to be used to subsidize profitable oil giants.
Anyone can check on any congressman's voting record on Google. I went through Congressman Keating's votes, and see consistently favorable patterns.
He scores very highly on energy/climate/environmental issues, vital to a healthy future for all of us and for the planet. He supports renewables, a big part of our future economy. He votes for the EPA's protection of clean air and water. Like experts James Hansen and Bill McKibben, he opposes catastrophic oil shale exploitation and sees no reason for taxpayer money to be used to subsidize profitable oil giants.
Repeatedly his "Nay" votes on repealing all or parts of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act has been a constant reminder that the Tea Party agenda of making the average family's health insurance cost an extra $6,000, making Medicare a voucher system, and giving insurers the freedom to revoke coverage when someone gets sick.
Congressman Keating has been a consistent friend to the commercial fishermen. He formed a new Fisheries Research Panel to study how to assure a sustainable future economy.
He is actively working to save 174 jobs at Otis Air Base.
He is actively working to save 174 jobs at Otis Air Base. He is working in support of postal workers in an effort to ensure reasonable mail handling will continue. He serves on the Small Business Committee and is available to our entrepreneurs, a large segment of our economy.
And besides all that Washington activity, Bill Keating is here in the district for local events and to congratulate constituents who have made significant achievements. Check his website, www.billkeating.org and see the amazing activity he manages throughout the 9th district.
If his colleagues in the House were more like him, they would see their approval rating jump to 90% instead of their shameful 10%, the lowest in history.
