  • Kalmar Nyckel Returns to ProvincetownThe Kalmar Nyckel, returns to Provincetown on July 24th. Guests are invited to haul lines, set sails and enjoy tales of the original Kalmar Nyckel. Whether your passion lies in landscape, birds, insects or environmental portraits, come learn the technical skills that will let you turn off the auto mode on your camera and take control of your photographs.   • Seashore Ramble 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM Explore the beach at low tide with a friendly naturalist. Our walk to the beach will take us through five different sanctuary habitats, and we’ll use dip nets and magnifiers to search for swimming, flying, and burrowing wildlife along the way.   • “Sleeping Beauty” presented by KID-BITS Cape Playhouse Theatre for Kids 09:30 AM & 11:00 AM. Appropriate for children preschool age on up, and with two performances of each show, there are plenty of opportunities for kids (and grown-ups!) to enjoy this special treat. The captivating tale of the princess, the witch, the dragon and the prince. A classic tale that comes to life through music, song and the rarely-seen incredible art of professional marionettes.   • Highland Cape Cod Lighthouse Tour 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM. Tour Highland Lighthouse, daily from 10am to 5:30pm, May 19 through mid October. Gift shop closes at 6pm. Admission is $4 per person, all ages. There is a 48 inch height requirement for all children. Highland Lighthouse (North Truro)

  • Critter Capers 10:30 AM. Drop in for a half-hour visit with a naturalist and one of the resident animals. Suitable for children ages 2.5 and up. Advanced registration is NOT required. Free to members; $2 per person for non-members. Green Briar Nature Center (East Sandwich)

  • Fish Printing 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM. Bring home the perfect remembrance of your time on Cape Cod: a fish print! We'll practice the traditional Japanese art of gyotaku as we paint and then print a real fish for your craft collection. You may drop in anytime during the specified times above. Special art paper is provided for the print, but you are welcome to bring a t-shirt or pillowcase. This project is great for kids and adults. Important - price is per print. Registration required.   • Horseshoe Crab Encounters 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM After a wild presentation with amazing video of Horseshoe Crabs developing, we’ll head down to the flats to find these ancient creatures buried in the sand – perhaps even mating! Meet at The Visitors Center at Mass Audubon's Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary (Cummaquid)

  • Nauset Marsh Discovery Cruise 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM. Cruise through Nauset Marsh on a partially shaded pontoon boat and disembark on the exposed tidal flats to search, with nets and magnifiers, for wildlife. Learn about the wildlife with an experienced naturalist.This is a wonderful program for families, and, of all of our boat trips, the one that is most suitable for preschoolers. Registration required.   • "Eyes on Owls" with Marcia & Mark Wilson 11:00 AM & 1:30 PM. Tickets are available for purchase at HYCC for the following show times and prices. Tickets are only valid for one show time and member pricing is only available to HYCC members with a valid membership.

  • Jaws of Cape Cod 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM. Sharks, seals, whales, coyotes, birds, oh my! Get an up-close look at the jaws, teeth, baleen, and beaks of Cape Cod's predators when you join us for an hour of hands-on exploratory activities and movement games in our nature center. Parents and children will play and learn together. IMPORTANT: Activities are designed for children ages 6 and older with caregiver.   • Cape Cod Viking 200 Cardboard Boat Challenge 10:00 AM - 01:00 PM Sponsored by Cape Cod Viking Real Estate this event challenges local businesses, organizations, and individuals to build a boat entirely out of cardboard, duct tape, glue, caulking and paint, stick two people in it, and race around a 200 (give or take) yard course on the Bass River, for fabulous prizes, really cool trophies, and above all, bragging rights to the much coveted Viking Cup and Rubber Ducky Trophy.  Fun for the entire family!   • Pottery Throwing Demonstration for Kids 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM. If your child doesn't mind a little wet clay and enjoys building or creating things, this is a fun afternoon activity for your family. Potter Paul Wisotzky transforms a lump of clay into beautiful pots, mugs and more on his potting wheel right before your very eyes. Paul invites kids to help him in the transformation. Pottery throwing demonstrations every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 2-5pm, June thru August. Paul also has a do-it-yourself pottery kit just for kids that can be purchased to take back home for kids to make their own creations.   • Wizard Rock Concert 6:00 PM is FREE and sounds like a blast! The Brewster Ladies’ Library is hosting a Wizard Rock concert on Saturday, July 28 at 6:00 p.m. It’s an epic three-band Wizard Rock event - and right before Harry Potter's birthday! This concert features the Whomping Willows, Justin Finch-Fletchley and the Sugar Quills, and Lauren Fairweather. Not familiar with Wizard Rock (Wrock)? It's a whole genre of music written about the books and world of Harry Potter, performed by awesome bands.   • Highfield Hall: Bluegrass on the Lawn 03:00 PM - 07:00 PM. Grab a blanket, grab the kids, pack a picnic and come on up to the top of Highfield Drive for an afternoon of good-time, toe-tappin’, hand-clappin’ bluegrass music. This year, Highfield is very happy to feature “Cape Cod’s premier bluegrass band,” CrabGrass! Also on stage once again will be perennial local crowd-pleasers, the Falmouth Fiddlers. Wrapping things up are the young up-and-coming Boston band, Chasing Blue, followed by one more set from CrabGrass. Stay for an hour or stay for the afternoon. Admission is by free will donation. Well, there certainly is a lot going on this weekend. It makes me want to pack my car up and take my family back down to Cape Cod to get out to enjoy the wonderful places and stomping grounds we miss so much! Have a great weekend, everyone, and make sure you get out enjoying all that Cape Cod has to offer…or you’ll be kicking yourself if you move away!!! And there’s so much to do that doesn’t cost a thing. Make memories out together as a family!!!
