Profile of three seeking 9th District

Incumbent Keating has two challengers to his reelection

Three candidates are seeking to represent the newly formed 9th District in Congress for the next two years.

The state lost one seat in Congress due to population shifts in the last decade, and the 9th has been augmented by several South Coast towns which were once part of the district decades ago.

The incumbent, U.S. Rep. William Keating of Bourne, is being challenged by Republican Christopher Sheldon of Plymouth and Daniel Botelho, Independent from Fall River.

The 9th Congressional District now includes: all of Cape Cod and the Islands, and parts of the South Coast including New Bedford and part of Fall River, parts of the South Shore including Carver, Duxbury, Halifax, Hanover, Hanson, Kingston, Marshfield, Middleboro, Norwell, Pembroke, Plymouth, Plympton, Rockland and Wareham.
