Yarmouth detour notice during overpass dedication

A detour will be in effect Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. during the dedication of ceremony of the Nicholas G. Xiarhos Veterans Memorial Overpass on Great Western Road in Yarmouth.

During the ceremony, northbound traffic will be diverted to White's Path and southbound traffic will be diverted to West Great Western Road.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes during the ceremony.

Governor Deval Patrick signed the bill to rename the overpass which spans Route 6 and connects Great Western Road to North Dennis Road after Cpl. Xiarhos this past July.  Cpl. Xiarhos was a 2006 graduate of Dennis-Yarmouth High School.  He was killed in action in Afghanistan on July 23, 2009 attempting to rescue fellow Marines.

The dedication is on open to the public.
