Open burning season underway in Wellfleet

Daily burning allowed daily through May 1 with permit

Opening burning season began last week in Wellfleet and will continue through Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 4 p.m. Burning may be done between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day, weather-permitting.

In order to burn brush in Wellfleet, residents must obtain a permit from the Wellfleet Fire Department. The permit is $15 and payment must be made by cash or check.

Additionally, residents wishing to burn must call the Wellfleet Fire Department at 508-349-0333 between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. that day. A recorded message will inform the caller if burning is allowed on that day. If it is, the caller will be prompted to leave his/her name, address and permit number.

Based on weather conditions, the Wellfleet Fire Department may call off a burn during the day and order that all brush fires be extinguished.

Applications are available online here and may be processed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the fire station.
