Amid the Cape's current big box brouhaha over Lowe's opening a store in Dennis, Wisconsin-based Kohl's is planning for their September grand opening in Hyannis.
The specialty department store, which offers everything from clothing to beauty products, shoes, jewelry, small appliances and home goods, will be opening in the former location of Stop and Shop on Independence Drive in the Southwind Plaza.
According to Geetha Natarajan, a Kohl's spokesperson, the company will be bringing 125 new part-time jobs to the Cape. Kohl's is holding a job fair August 3 through August 7 at the Courtyard Marriott at 707 Iyannough Road (Route 132) in Hyannis.
Interested applicants are asked to call 877-639-5645 or visit Kohlscareers.com to schedule an appointment. The job fair will be held during the following hours:
Available part-time positions include register operators, department associates, customer service associates, early a.m. freight unloaders and evening ad set associates.
"Kohl's associates receive competitive compensation, great benefits and immediate merchandise discounts," according to Natarajan.
Extensive work has been in progress at the location for the past few months where construction fencing surrounded the parking lot that once served the Stop and Shop location.
Southwind Plaza, leased and managed by the Wilder Company, is home to A.C Moore, Home Depot and a handful of smaller stores. Most recently, Old Navy, another national clothing chain, picked up its stakes and moved to the Capetown Plaza near Kmart, into the long vacant location that was once a movie theater and a Filene's home goods store.
According to the site plan on the Wilder website, a 25,000 square foot Whole Foods Market will be opening next in the former Borders location. A 38,000 square foot spot between Kohl's and A.C. Moore is currently open, according to Wilder's site plan.
