Eastham Route 6 rear-ender sends one to the hospital

Driver traveling in passing lane strikes driver turning left

EASTHAM - A rear-end crash on Route 6 in Eastham sent one person to the hospital Thursday. The crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 6 and Governor Prence Road, according to an Eastham police release.

Police said Sarah Burrill, 53 of Eastham was stopped in the left southbound lane where she was attempting to turn left. Ms. Burrill's vehicle was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Aaron Souza, 23, of South Dartmouth, who was traveling in the passing lane.

Responding officers arrived to find the vehicles blocking both southbound lanes on Route 6.

One person was transported to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis with injuries believed to be non life-threatening, police said.

The police did not indicate if either driver will be cited in the crash.

Route 6 traffic was detoured down Governor Prence Road for about an hour as authorities cleared the scene. This is not the first crash to occur along this windy stretch of Route 6. Several people were injured in 2008 in two separate July crashes in the area.

The crash is under investigation.
