The Sandwich Public Library announced that it will be open on Sundays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. through April 28. The additional hours are possible thanks to the support of the Friends of the Sandwich Public Library and donors, according to library.

The Friends sponsor a variety of programs at the library and assist the library in purchasing much needed equipment and making improvements to the library's interior and exterior.

In 2010, budget cuts threatened the elimination of Sunday hours--a popular time for Sandwich residents to take advantage of the library's services. The Friends stepped in and through a series of fundraisers, managed to restore Sunday hours. From October 2010 to March 2011, according to the library, 10,953 visits occurred on open Sundays. Through the continued efforts of Friends and Sponsor a Sunday donors, the library remains open both weekend days.

In addition to Sunday hours, the Sandwich library is open Tuesday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
