Swans are sociable except in breeding season, and they mate for life. Courtship involves mutual bill dipping or head-to-head posturing.

Swans are the largest members of the waterfowl family Anatidae, and they are among the largest flying birds. The largest species, including the mute swan, trumpeter swan, and whooper swan, can reach a length of over 5 feet and weigh over 30 pounds with wingspans which can be almost 10 feet.
