Suspected arsonist arrested in Provincetown

Provincetown man facing six arson charges

PROVINCETOWN - A Provincetown man has been arrested and charged in connection with setting a series of arson fires six years ago in town. According to a Provincetown police release issued by Lt. Jim Golden, James Kevin Stinson of Provincetown was taken into custody Friday.

Stinson was charged with five counts of arson of a dwelling and one count of arson of a building. The charges relate to a series of fire set between 2007 and 2008 in Provincetown. In all twenty fires were set and all were ruled arson, according to police.

The charges were brought against Stinson as a result of an in depth investigation conducted by Provincetown police and Massachusetts State Troopers assigned to the State Fire Marshal's Office.

Anyone with information about the fires or Stinson is asked to call Det. Meredith Lobur at 508-487-7000 ext. 319. Confidential information may be reported via the state's Arson Hotline at 800-682-9229. Rewards of up to $5,000 are offered for information that leads to solving a case.
