Cape Cod Mazda in South Yarmouth apparently closed its doors in the past week. A reader reported earlier this week that “all the cars are gone” and the dealership appeared to be shut down.
There was no notice on the 527 Station Avenue showroom windows or doors telling Mazda owners what happened or where to go for service on the cars they bought there..
Cape Cod Today twice attempted to contact the dealership’s owners, Shaker Automotive Group.
Lost in Mazda's "Voicemail-Jail"
Yesterday around 1 p.m. we visited the Boston Mazda website, to which www.capecodmazda.com is now redirecting, and called the phone numbers found on that site. We left a message at the sales managers’ voice mail boxes for both of Shaker’s remaining Mazda dealers. We also filled out an email contact form on the Boston Mazda website. In all cases we offered to publish a statement from Shaker Auto verbatim as submitted. No response has been received.
Below is a photo of Mazda Cape Cod in happier times.
The parent company’s website www.shakerautogroup.com no longer lists the Cape Cod Mazda dealership. Shaker Automotive Group appears to hold four new car franchises, comprising Ford, Lincoln, Kia and Mazda with dealerships in Salem, Boston, Wellesley and also in Watertown, Connecticut.
Curious how Cape Mazda owners can access warranty service, we visited Mazda’s corporate site (www.mazdausa.com) and searched for the nearest dealer to South Yarmouth. According to that search, Alden Mazda in Fairhaven is the nearest Mazda franchise. The site reports Alden Mazda as being 50.9 miles from South Yarmouth.
Location, Location, Location...
As is the case in most cities, auto dealers always group together making it easier for buyers to look over the entire market. Most of Cape Cod's auto dealers follow that pattern by grouping along Willow Street in Hyannis. Stand-alone locations don't work nearly as well.
Mazda is the third dealership to learn that lesson the hard way at the South Yarmouth location.
Cape Cod Mazda was located just off Route 6’s Exit 8 on Union Street in South Yarmouth. The building is best known as the long-time home of Hyannis Saab. Older Cape Codder’s remember the site as the home of Bass River Subaru.
