Island father & son duet of their "Massachusetts Song" goes viral

You were BOURNE with MASHPEEs for a BRAINTREE
You don't have to be an ATHOL to like the lyrics.

You don't have to be an ATHOL to enjoy Dana and Jaiden's new composition

Weaves dozens of local town names into the lyrics

Dana Edelman and his 11-year-old son Jaiden of Tisbury on Martha's Vineyard created "The Massachusetts Song (You Athol)," and it has had almost 30,000 views since it was posted on YouTube.

Patch on Martha's Vineyard reported that Dana wrote the song during long distance drives, and his son's beautiful voice works well with his dad's.

The song is charming and funny and will delight Baystaters. Dana Edelman is a working musician who composes for advertising and television and has his own recording career as a singer-songwriter.

He told Patch that the song came about during long drives between New York and Martha's Vineyard before he and family were able to move there year-round two years ago.

He added that he jabbered the names of Massachusetts towns he passed through, and this witty song is the result.

Some of the lines include:

  • "WARE'd the HAM go from my SANDWICH"
  • "You were BOURNE with MASHPEEs for your BRAINTREE."
  • "SALEM east to MARTHA'S VINEYARD"
  • "You're a TAUNTON FALMOUTH BUZZARD."
  • You've got MARBLEs in your HEAD.
  • "You ATHOL."
