Council approves Barnstable and Plymouth Magistrates

Charles Ardito approved by a 7 to 0 vote as Clerk-Magistrate

Two of Gov. Deval Patrick's picks for clerk-magistrate positions were unanimously approved by the Governor's Council Wednesday.

Charles Ardito was approved by a 7 to 0 vote to become clerk-magistrate of the Barnstable District Court. Ardito has been a Barnstable District Court assistant clerk since 2001.

John Fitzsimmons, a Marshfield resident, was approved 7 to 0 for the clerk-magistrate job in the Plymouth District Court. Fitzsimmons has been with the clerk's office since 1984, as the first assistant clerk magistrate for the majority of that time.

The Massachusetts Governor's Council (also known as the Executive Council) is a governmental body that provides advice and consent in certain matters – such as judicial nominations, pardons, and commutations – to the Governor of Massachusetts. Councillors are elected by the general public.

Cape Cod's representative on the council is Oliver P. Cipollini, Jr.of Marstons Mills.
