Enrollment for Chatham senior tax work-off program is June 18

Third year Chatham seniors can swap skills for tax relief

The Chatham Council on Aging announced that Wednesday, June 18 is the enrollment day for the town's Senior Tax Work-Off Program. Chatham seniors are encouraged to sign up for the program at the Chatham Senior Center, 193 Stony Hill Road at 10 a.m.

This is the third year the program is being offered, according to the Chatham COA.

By signing up for the program, the expertise and skills of Chatham seniors will be put to use in various municipal roles. The program is an excellent way to get seniors involved in the community, according to the town.

In exchange for work, the Town of Chatham will grant participating seniors property tax relief. Chatham's certified FY14 tax rate is $5.08 per $1,000.

Eligible seniors must be at least 60-years-old, complete a CORI check and have valid ID. There is a maximum credit of $500 per household per tax work-off year. This, the third year of the program, goes into effect on July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015. For complete details, click here.
