Chatham Special Town Meeting set for Sept. 15

Residents to consider four-article special town meeting warrant

Chatham residents are encouraged to attend a Special Town Meeting set for tonight, Monday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Monomoy Regional Middle School (the former Chatham High School), 425 Crowell Road.

The Special Town Meeting Warrant contains four articles. The first article pertains to the appropriation of funds for the preparation and submission of formal comments and continued advocacy regarding the Town of Chatham's interests and rights regarding Monomoy and the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge Draft Comprehensive Conservation Plan.

Article 2 pertains to funding for subsurface contamination mitigation at Assessor's Parcel ID  14E-0-73 on Depot Road. During soil boring on the town-owned parcel, part of the building design at the site of the new proposed fire station, gasoline contamination was detected. Both a "full treatment" and "limited treatment" option are being considered.

Article 3 is a vote to fund salary increases and other cost-items resulting from a contract arbitration settlement between the Town of Chatham and the Chatham Permanent Firefighters Union, IAFF Local 2712.

Article 4 is a request for funds to purchase a 7.345 acre parcel of land (Assessor's Map 3E, Parcels E2 and E4) for conservation and "passive recreation" use. The land is owned by the Estate of Lillian A. Eldredge.
