Elder Services of Cape Cod & the Islands presents a caregivers workshop

Six-week program teaches caregivers to care for themselves

Beginning Thursday, September 18, Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands presents a six-week course geared at caregivers.  "Powerful Tools for Caregivers" is for anyone caring for a spouse, parent relative or friend.

The workshop, which meets every Thursday from September 18 to October 23 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mashpee Senior Center, teaches participants to care for themselves.

The free workshop includes lessons to reduce stress, communicate more effectively, take care of yourself, reduce guilt, anger and depression and make difficult decisions.

The workshop is led by Cecilie Brown and Frank Riley of ESCCI's Family Caregiver Support Program. The National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) was established in 2000 and provides grants to states based on the percentage of the state's population over 70, according to the Administration on Aging website.

Workshop participants will receive a caregiver handbook. Respite funds are also available for those in need.

To register, call 508-394-4630 ext. 450.
