League of Women Voters of Falmouth to host candidates night Oct. 22

DA, State Senate and County Commissioner candidates to debate

The League of Women Voters of Falmouth will host a candidates night on Wednesday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Morse Pond School, 323, Jones Road in Falmouth. Prior to the debate, candidates will greet attendees beginning at 7 p.m.

Candidate for three seats will participate in the debate. Plymouth and Barnstable State Senate candidates Matt Patrick (D-Falmouth), Vinny deMacedo (R-Plymouth) and Heather Mullins (L) will debate. The three are all running for the seat left vacant by retiring State Senator Therese Murray.

Incumbent Cape & Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe (R-Sandwich) will square off against his opponent Richard Barry (D-Cotuit). Barry is the seasoned DA's first opponent in eight years.

Two new Barnstable County Commissioner candidates, Mark Forest (D-Yarmouth) and Leo Cakounes (R-Harwich) will also debate on Wednesday evening. The winner in November will join County Commissioners Shelia Lyons (D-Wellfleet) and Mary Pat Flynn (D-Falmouth) who are both serving until 2017.

The debates will be moderated by Mindy Todd of WCAI. Audience members will also be allowed to ask questions of each group of candidates.
