Missing Falmouth swimmer found

Swimmer's companions reported him missing 9 a.m. Saturday, he was found a half hour later

WEST FALMOUTH - A swimmer who was reported missing at Chapoquoit Beach Saturday morning was found safe a half hour later. According to a Falmouth police release, two people who had been swimming at the beach called 911 just after 9 a.m. to report a third person missing.

Falmouth police, firefighters, members of the town's marine and environmental services and Coast Guard crews responded to the beach to search for the 67-year-old man.

At 9:27 a.m., a police officer located the missing man on the street on Chapoquoit Island. The unidentified man was wearing a wetsuit and told the officer he had muscle cramps while in the water and swam ashore.

The man was evaluated by Falmouth Fire/Rescue and decline further treatment, police said.
