If you've got some overdue books or other borrowed materials piling up, you can return them to your library without penalty this month. Two Cape libraries are participating in a library fine amnesty program.
This holiday season at the Dennis Public Library, 5 Hall Street in Dennisport, you can wipe your overdue book record clean by donating one non-perishable item (canned good or dry good) for every $1 owed up to $10. All the food collected by the library during the "Food for Fines" program will be donated to the Dennis Council on Aging Food Pantry.
In Eastham, return your overdue books to the Eastham Public Library along with some non-perishable food items and your fines will be forgiven during November. All food items collected for the Eastham Horn of Plenty will be donated to the Love Food Pantry at the Eastham United Methodist Church. With construction, the Eastham Public Library is temporarily housed in triple-wide trailers next to the Eastham Town Hall, 2500 State Highway. For more information, visit the library's website here.
Many of the 30+ libraries on Cape Cod host a food for fines program during the year. Check with your library to see when their next fine amnesty program is scheduled.
