FALMOUTH - Two Barnstable County Correctional Facility female inmates were charged with heroin possession Friday. According to a Barnstable County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) release, the two women were being held in a holding cell together at Falmouth District Court last week. Both were there on previous, unrelated charges, BCSO said.

Based on a tip that the women were in possession of drugs, rather than being transported back to the jail in Bourne, they were taken to the Worcester County Sheriff's Office.

In Worcester, the inmates were checked with a high tech scanner capable of detecting narcotics, according to BCSO. After being shown the scans, the inmates reportedly admitted to possessing the drugs.

One inmate had one bag containing 17.2 grams of heroin, the other had four small baggies containing 11.2 grams total hidden in a body cavity.

The charges will be reviewed by the Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office, BCSO said. welcomes thoughtful comments and the varied opinions of our readers.
