The owners of the Captain's House Inn in Chatham have something to celebrate. They are the winners of the $25,000 prize on the Travel Channel's new show, "Hotel Showdown". The show is a competition between four one-of-a-kind hotels. As part of the contest, each of the hotel owners spent a night at their rivals' inns awarding points for their stay, dining and overall experience.

The episode featuring the Captain's House Inn aired on Tuesday, January 13. The other three hotels are also in New England: the Attwater Hotel in Newport, RI, the Stowe Meadows Inn in Elmore, VT and the Firehouse Inn in Barre, VT.

During their stay at Stowe Meadows the competitors took a dog sledding trip and at the Firehouse Inn, enjoyed the nostalgic flair and fare of the Ladder One Grill. But Jill Meyer impressed her competitors with a classic British touch and high tea at her historic 16-room inn in Chatham.

The series is open to independent hoteliers who operate unique properties across the United States. The next episode of "Hotel Showdown", featuring four more New England lodgings, airs on Tuesday, January 20.

The Captain's House Inn is at 369-377 Old Harbor Road in Chatham, 508-945-0127. The inn is open year-round. welcomes thoughtful comments and the varied opinions of our readers.
