Cape Samaritans to offer senior outreach training this month

Volunteers will be trained to reach out to isolated or at risk seniors

The Samaritans on Cape Cod & the Islands will offer training for their Senior Outreach Program this month. The program began in 2009 in response to a need in the Cape's growing elder community.

The Cape's seniors are independent and from a generation that isn't quick to rely on others, the Samaritans point out. The program reaches out to the Cape's seniors offering a little extra support.

Trained volunteers make weekly phone calls to seniors who are isolated or at risk. Most of the seniors in the program were referred by the council on aging in their town, someone in the community or a family member. Self-referrals, according to the website, are also welcomed.

The next Senior Outreach Volunteer Training will be held in Falmouth January 26, 27, 28 and February 2 & 3. For information or to sign up for the training, call 508-548-7999 or email [email protected]

The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands is based in Falmouth.
