Town of Sandwich to host Wing School public forum April 13

First of three forums regarding the Wing School Repurposing Feasibility Study

On Monday, April 13 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Town of Sandwich will hold a public forum on the Wing School Repurposing Feasibility Study.

The forum will be held at the Sandwich Town Hall on Main Street and will be the first of three such meetings.

The April 13 forum will be a working ideas session, according to a notice from the town. No solutions or proposals for future uses of the building will be presented at the meeting.

Town officials, architects and project group members will be at the forum to present facility assessment findings to date and answer questions.

Sandwich residents are encouraged to attend the meeting and to share their thoughts, concerns and ideas.

In December 2014, the town solicited proposals from architectural and engineering firms to assess the condition of the HT Wing School building at 33 Water Street and calculate estimates for work to be done to repurpose the building for municipal, non-profit or private commercial/residential use.

According to town records, the HT Wing School was built in 1927. All Sandwich students went to the Wing school until 1976 when Sandwich High School was built. The Wing school is scheduled for decommission following the 2014-2015 school year.

Questions regarding the April 13 forum may be directed to 508-888-5144 or 508-888-4910.
