Barnstable inner harbor bulkhead project underway

Town marina to remain closed until May 1

Repairs to the Barnstable inner harbor bulkhead began last week. According to a release from the town, contractors will excavate five feet deep on the land side of the steel bulkhead sheets to install a new structural system.

Once the work is complete, the wooden guardrails and asphalt pavement that were removed will be reinstalled to return the area to its current condition, the release said.

During repairs, the town marina will be closed until May 1. The marina will remain open until October 1 and if the project is not completed this spring, work will start up again in the fall.

The repairs are being made by Palmer-based Northern Construction Services, LLC. Contractors will use the grassy area west of the marina. The roadway to the south will be closed, according to the release.

While work is being done, the private marina will be accessible via Freezer Road.
