It is Dennis Port, please

Town voted last year to make it official

To the Editor:

Just thought I would pass this info along. I love the information on your site, especially any news about Dennis Port. As Chair of the Dennis Port Revitalization Committee, I’m writing to ask that any future stories about Dennis Port refer to Dennis Port as two words to lessen the confusion on whether Dennisport is one word or Dennis Port is two words.

The Board of Selectmen and the Town voted unanimously in Feb. 2014 that the Village of Dennis Port is two words. Historically it has always been two words. The Dennis Historical Commission has always recognized Dennis Port as two words. The Cape Cod Times and the Register now refer to Dennis Port as two words. The federal government and the state of Massachusetts also recognize Dennis Port as 2 words.

I recognize that old habits are hard to break and if someone grew up or just likes spelling Dennis Port as one word, so be it. If you have any questions feel free to contact me and keep up the great work of keeping the public informed. I just wanted to pass along the officially recognized spelling of the Village of Dennis Port.

Thank You,

Donald J. Robitaille
Chair, Dennis Port Revitalization Committee
