The Wellfleet Police Department will be hosting its second of two public forums tonight, Monday, April 13 at 6 p.m. at the Wellfleet Fire Department. The first meeting was held on March 30. Several items will be discussed including the police station feasibility study and two budgeting articles in the upcoming town meeting warrant.
The annual town meeting will be held on Monday, April 27, 2015 at the Wellfleet Elementary School. In all, residents will consider 50 articles and ten questions, three of which pertain to the Wellfleet Police Department.
Question 2 asks if the town will be allowed to assess an additional $60,000 in real estate and personal property tax to fund a new police officer. Questions 3 asks if the town will be allowed to exempt from the provisions of Proposition 2 1/2, the amount required to pay for the bonds or notes issued by the town to pay the costs associated with the architectural design, hiring of a project manager, bidding to renovate the existing police station.
Article 10 calls for the town to free $60,000 for a new police officer. Of that amount, $45,480 would be the starting salary, $1,000 uniforms, $2,000 holiday costs and the remaining $11,520 for benefits and training. The article has been recommended unanimously by the board of selectmen and the finance committee.
