Plan ahead: Harwich transfer station to be closed April 20 & 21

Maintenance work will close dump for two days

The Harwich transfer station will be closed next Monday and Tuesday, April 20 and 21. Onsite maintenance will necessitate the closure of the entire facility.

According to Harwich DPW Director Lincoln Hooper, the entire transfer station, which is 27-years-old, is being overhauled. A new push pit, compactor, power unit, hydraulic and electrical connections and control panel will be installed. As heavy equipment will be operated onsite and major components will be dismantled and installed, the decision was made to completely close the facility to ensure safety.

The facility including the recycling center, will reopen at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22. "Our goal is to have the station up and running in five days and fully operational by the weekend," Hooper said.

Unlike most of the Cape's transfer stations, the Harwich transfer station on Queen Anne Road is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
